Microsoft decides to reject emails that don’t pass DMARC - feature 117533

Starting in April 2023, Microsoft says they will be finally rejecting emails that fail DMARC on their consumer email platforms including Hotmail, Live, MSN, and Outlook.com.

Up to this point, Microsoft has been sending these emails to the recipient’s Spam folder which is not really following the wishes of DMARC policy-holders who have have requested that DMARC-failing emails either go to administrative quarantine, or get rejected outright. (I should note, however, that the the DMARC standard makes it clear that the DMARC policy is a ‘request’ and that the ultimatae disposition of failing emails is up to the mailbox provider.
